BACKGROUND


Suitable climate and soil have made Vietnam a large and diverse tropical fruit producer:
• Fruit tree area: 1.18 million hectares (2021)
• Output: 12 - 13 million tons/year
• Fruit and vegetable export: 3.55 billion USD
• Fresh fruit exports: 75.9% (dragon fruit, mango, banana, jackfruit, coconut, durian, lemon, watermelon, lychee, passion fruit)

The GQSP Vietnam project cooperates with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) to support the tropical fruit value chain in compliance with technical regulations and international market requirements to strengthen trade capacity, commercial.

 

APPROACH


Taking mango and pomelo as typical tropical fruits, phase 1 (2020-2023) addressed, developed and tested a number of key interventions to address obstacles that limit the ability to take advantage of market opportunities. export of mango and pomelo industry. (see results here)

Phase 2 (2023-2026) is built on the results of Phase 1, combining scale expansion and adjusting interventions and models developed for many tropical fruit industries in Vietnam.

The project's goal is to enhance the competitiveness and sustainability of Vietnamese tropical fruit exports through innovation, diversification, quality improvement and standards compliance capacity to meet modern market's demand and requirements.

Results

Technical capacity and sustainability of Quality Infrastructure Systems and conformity assessment services related to the tropical fruit export industry are enhanced.

Enhance the capacity of tropical fruit export value chains to meet market requirements and compete in target markets through compliance with technical regulations and other quality requirements, as appropriate. respond to change, innovation and new technology.

Improve quality culture through favorable policies, market innovation and organizational structures that enable effective export development.
